The Political Vision of the Democratic Youth Movement

The Democratic Youth Movement strives in its political and civil struggle to entrench the principles of democracy and social justice, uphold the rule of law and institutions, and establish the principle of separation of powers — legislative, executive, and judicial — while emphasizing the independence of the Syrian judiciary, all within the framework of a civil, democratic, decentralized state that embraces multiple nationalities.

The movement also fights to eliminate all remnants of oppression and to secure constitutional recognition of the legitimate national rights of the Kurdish people in accordance with international charters and agreements.

The movement relies in its activities on all means and methods of peaceful democratic struggle to achieve freedom and liberation from dictatorship and the totalitarian system in all its forms and symbols.

It rejects all forms of extremism, racism, and discrimination based on gender, color, age, ethnicity, or affiliation.

The movement respects the religious and national specificities of all segments of Syrian society and works to activate and strengthen the role of Syrian youth in general — and Kurdish youth in particular — in all fields of political, civil, administrative, and service work.

It seeks to open channels of communication with all civil youth organizations in Syria that align with the movement’s principles and ideas of democratic action.

The movement believes in the necessity of engaging with all political and civil currents (secular, Islamic, liberal, and democratic) to reach understandings and develop mechanisms for joint peaceful struggle.

It also aims to help formulate a new social contract under a new constitution based on fair elections and referendums.

The movement’s work and struggle are embodied in institutional action through a number of offices, applying a decentralized structure that includes: the Civil Society Office, the Media and Women’s Office, the Strategic Planning Office, and the Financial and Administrative Oversight Office.

Externally, the movement seeks to build stronger bilateral relations with countries, organizations, and regional and international bodies in a way that serves the civil and peaceful work of the movement and the Syrian national cause. It aims to develop these external relations to achieve the movement’s stated goals and to serve the public interest of the Syrian revolution.
